Matters of Fact.

MR. Parris[1] had been some years a Ministerin Salem-Village, when this sad Calamity(as a deluge) overflowed them, spreading4itself far and near. He was a Gentleman of LiberalEducation, and not meeting with any great Encouragement,or Advantage in Merchandizing, towhich for some time he apply'd himself, betookhimself to the work of the Ministry; this Villagebeing then vacant, he met with so muchEncouragement, as to settle in that Capacityamong them.

After he had been there about two years, heobtained a Grant from a part of the Town, thatthe House and Land he Occupied, and whichhad been Alotted by the whole People to theMinistry, should be and remain to him, &c. ashis own Estate in Fee Simple. This occasionedgreat Divisions both between the Inhabitantsthemselves, and between a considerable part ofthem and their said Minister, which Divisionswere but as a beginning or Præludium to whatimmediately followed.
