PREFACE.
The first edition of the ensuing pages having beendisposed of very shortly after the publication of it,the Author has availed himself of the opportunityafforded him by a second being called for, to makeseveral important additions, which will be found inthe Appendix; and to subject the whole to a minuteand careful revision: nor can he send forth his workagain before the Public, without expressing the heartfeltgratification it has given him to find the simplenarrative, which has been written "for consciencesake," so generally appreciated in the very light inwhich he was most anxious for it to be viewed;viviz. as the humble instrument of use in the cause ofreligious freedom and gospel truth; a cause sacredin itself, and indissolubly connected with the moraland political prosperity and happiness of the wholefamily of the human race.
