The following pages contain thesubstance of some Sermons preached in the course of my parochialministry, on the subject of Sanctification, and are published atthe request of several members of my congregation.
They contain nothing new, and, being parochial sermons, theyare not in the form of a systematic treatise. But I hopethey exhibit the doctrine of Sanctification as revealed inScripture, as embodied in the teaching of the Church of England, and as preached by those who are generally termed the EvangelicalClergy.
They are not so much controversial as practical. p. viMy desire hasnot been to discuss new opinions, but to bring out oldtruths. I shall be truly thankful if this shall prove tohave been done; and I commit them to God, with the earnest prayerthat He may make them useful, by the power of the Holy Spirit, tothose who long for the fulfilment of the prayer of their mostblessed Saviour,—‘Sanctify them through Thy truth,Thy Word is truth.’
