Once upon a timethere was a very mischievouslittle monkey,who lived in a big banyantree, and his namewas Jacko.
And in the junglebelow there lived a huge,fierce old lion andlioness.
Now Jacko was a veryteasing monkey. Heused to climb down thelong trailing roots of thebanyan tree, and pull thetails of all the othercreatures, and thenscamper up again, beforethey could catch him.
And he was so bold,he even pulled the tailsof the lion and lionessone day.
This made them soangry that—
They went to a grimold bear they knew, andthey arranged with himthat he should come withthem to the banyan tree,when Jacko was away.
So he came, and standingon the lion's head,he gnawed the rootsthrough till they wereso thin they would notbear a jerk.
And next time Jackopulled the lion's tail hegave a great tug—theroots broke, and downfell Jacko, into the huge,fierce grim old lion'sjaws!!
