RUTHERFORD MONTGOMERY would ratherwrite than do anything else in the world. Most ofhis books are about animals and the wilderness heknows so well. As a boy, Mr. Montgomery wouldlisten to the tales told by hunters, and his favoritesport then and now is going into the woodland andsitting quietly on a log, observing the children ofthe wild. He is a watcher, not a hunter.
Mr. Montgomery was born in North Dakota, and taught school for ten years in Wyoming andColorado after graduating from Colorado AgriculturalCollege. He saw service in the UnitedStates Flying Corps in World War I. Later, he wasa county judge in Colorado and held state officesthere. He now lives in Los Gatos, California.
