The following narrative is based on a reportwhich I made to the Government of Canada,dated November 16, in the year 1906, shortlyafter my return to Ottawa from the farNorth.
In writing this report I had to resist thetemptation to give many details which werepresent in my mind at the time but whichwould be scarcely warranted in an officialdocument. In the following pages I haveallowed myself more latitude and have alsoincluded several illustrations, the greaternumber of them being photographs takenby myself. Many of these were snapshotstaken from the deck of one or other of thesteamers on which I was a passenger, andfor that reason are not as good as when timeexposures were obtained.
